FAQs

On Site First Aid Training — Frequently Asked Questions

How much does on site first aid training cost?

Our on site first aid courses start from £395 + VAT per day, covering a group of up to 12 students — around £33 per person. One fixed price covers the trainer, travel, all equipment and certificates, with no hidden extras. Compared with sending each member of staff to a training centre individually, on site training is usually the most cost-effective way to get a whole team certified.

Do you offer a price match guarantee?

Yes. If you've received a cheaper quote for a like-for-like course, send us a copy of the written quote with your enquiry and we'll match the price. The quote must be in writing and for a comparable course — the same qualification, duration and group size.

How many first aiders does my workplace legally need?

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require every employer to make "adequate and appropriate" first aid provision, based on a first aid needs assessment covering your risks, headcount, shift patterns and site layout. As a rough guide, the HSE suggests an EFAW-trained first aider in low-risk workplaces of 25 or more people, and FAW-trained first aiders in higher-risk or larger workplaces — plus cover for absence, holidays and shifts.

Not sure what you need? Call us on 0808 164 2780 and we'll talk you through it free of charge.

How many staff can attend each course?

Most courses include up to 12 students per trainer, in line with first aid industry guidelines — and our AED and CPR courses can take up to 15. If you need to train a larger team, we can arrange multiple trainers or run courses over consecutive days.

Where do you deliver training?

We deliver first aid training on site at your workplace anywhere in the UK. Our trainers bring all the equipment needed — manikins, defibrillator trainers, projectors and course materials — you just need a suitable room.

What do we need to provide on the day?

Just a room big enough for the group with some clear floor space for CPR practice — a meeting room, canteen or training room is ideal. Our trainer brings everything else: manikins, AED trainers, bandages, a projector and all course materials.

Can you train around shift patterns or outside office hours?

Yes. We regularly deliver courses in the evening, at weekends and as split sessions to fit around shift handovers and opening hours. Tell us what works for your rota and we'll build the schedule around it.

We have multiple sites — can you handle a nationwide rollout?

Yes. We deliver across the whole of the UK, so you can book training for every site through one point of contact, with consistent course content, pricing and certification at each location. We also offer discounts for group and repeat bookings.

How quickly can you deliver the training?

Often within a couple of weeks, depending on trainer availability in your area. If you're working to a deadline — an audit, a new site opening or expiring certificates — tell us when you enquire and we'll prioritise dates that work.

Do attendees need any previous first aid experience?

No. All our courses except the First Aid at Work Requalification are designed for complete beginners. Our trainers are experienced at putting nervous delegates at ease, and the sessions are practical and hands-on rather than exam-style.

Our first aid certificates have expired — what should we do?

If a First Aid at Work certificate is still in date, staff can take the two-day requalification course. If it has already lapsed, the HSE expects the full course to be retaken. Speak to us first — we'll check what's right for your situation and book dates quickly so you're not left without cover.

What happens if a member of staff doesn't pass?

It's rare. Assessment is continuous and practical — there's no written exam to fail on the day — and our trainers support every delegate to reach the standard. If you have specific concerns about language, literacy or accessibility, let us know in advance and we'll adapt the delivery.

Are your courses accredited and HSE compliant?

Yes. Our courses are accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and we are members of the Federation of First Aid Training Organisations (FOFATO). Our mental health first aid and Level 3 paediatric first aid courses are accredited by Qualsafe Awards. Our Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work courses meet the requirements of the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.

How long are first aid certificates valid for?

First Aid at Work and Emergency First Aid at Work certificates are valid for three years. The HSE strongly recommends an annual refresher to keep skills current — we deliver these on site from £395 + VAT.

How do I book a course?

Call us on 0808 164 2780, email info@skillstg.co.uk or send an enquiry through our contact form with your preferred dates, location and the number of staff. We'll confirm availability and tailor the course to your workplace.
